Restoring lost Firefox Tabs

If you've lost any of your OneTab tabs within Firefox, we're very sorry about this. This is only an issue that has affected the Firefox version of OneTab, and not the Google Chrome version. It appears to be related to this long standing Firefox bug. We are currently rewriting OneTab on Firefox to use a different storage mechanism that does not suffer from this Firefox bug.

All is not lost though. It is very probable that your tabs can be easily recovered, either with Windows System Restore, Mac Time Machine, or from your Online Backup provider if you use one.

Windows System Recovery instructions

Tabs can be restored using the built in Windows system restore mechanism:

1. Close Firefox.
2. Using Windows Explorer, Go to the store.json file located at:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile Folder\jetpack\extension@one-tab.com\simple-storage
(Where "Username" is the name of the user that you log in to Windows as, and where "Profile Folder" will be a folder with a long string of characters for a name; the one with most data in it is probably your active one)
3. Once there, right click on the store.json file and select Properties. Click the Previous Versions tab and wait for Windows to show you older versions of the file. If there are no Previous Versions available, then if you have any kind of backup system (such as an online backup subscription) installed on your computer please skip to the next section (Windows Online Backup instructions).
4. Highlight the version of store.json from the last date before you lost your tabs. Click the Copy button and save it to the folder you navigated to, overwriting the current store.json.
5. Open Firefox and your OneTab tabs should be listed again

Windows Online Backup instructions

If you use any kind of backup system, such as a backup system that constantly backs up the contents of your computer to the internet, please try the following steps:

1. Close Firefox.
2. Log into your online backup provider or other backup system, and see if it has backed up the following file:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile Folder\jetpack\extension@one-tab.com\simple-storage\store.json
(Where "Username" is the name of the user that you log in to Windows as, and where "Profile Folder" will be a folder with a long string of characters for a name; the one with most data in it is probably your active one)
3. In the online backup system, locate a version of this file that was backed up prior to the date at which you lost your tabs. Restore this file back to your Windows computer into the same location as noted above, overwriting the existing store.json file.
4. Open Firefox and your OneTab tabs should be listed again

Mac Time Machine instructions

Tabs can be restored using the built in Time Machine mechanism:

1. Close Firefox.
2. Open the Time Machine app (located in your Applications folder), go to your main hard drive (normally labelled Macintosh HD), and go to the store.json file located at:
/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/Profile Folder/jetpack/extension@one-tab.com/simple-storage/
(Where "Username" is the name of the user that you log in to Mac as, and where "Profile Folder" will be a folder with a long string of characters for a name; the one with most data in it is probably your active one)
3. Using the slider inside Time Machine, go back in time to a date before you lost your tabs.
4. Once there, right click on the store.json file and select "Restore store.json to..." and save it to the same folder mentioned in the step above that you had navigated to, overwriting the current store.json.
5. Open Firefox and your OneTab tabs should be listed again

Mac Online Backup instructions

If you use any kind of backup system, such as a backup system that constantly backs up the contents of your computer to the internet, please try the following steps:

1. Close Firefox.
2. Log into your online backup provider or other backup system, and see if it has backed up the following file:
/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/Profile Folder/jetpack/extension@one-tab.com/simple-storage/store.json
(Where "Username" is the name of the user that you log in to your Mac as, and where "Profile Folder" will be a folder with a long string of characters for a name; the one with most data in it is probably your active one)
3. In the online backup system, locate a version of this file that was backed up prior to the date at which you lost your tabs. Restore this file back to your Mac computer into the same location as noted above, overwriting the existing store.json file.
4. Open Firefox and your OneTab tabs should be listed again

Again, we're sorry if this issue has affected your OneTab list of tabs, and we are working hard on a new version which uses a completely different storage mechanism which is not affected by this bug.
